HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Dr. Obote College Boroboro is a church of Uganda founded school located about 10km south of lira city off lira-Soroti road on the holy hill of Boroboro, Lira city east division, Lira city. The history of Dr. Obote College Boroboro dates way back to 1927 when the elementary ernacular school EVS (P.1 to P.4) was established by the church missionary society (CMS) authority and the first headteacher of the school was Mr. Samson Kiebe. In 1932 Boroboro central school which ran P.5 and P.6 classes were established in 1938 the EVS and Boroboro central school were merged in to Boroboro full primary school running from P.1 to P.6. Mr. Baluzahire became the headteacher of this school in 1940.In 1946, Lira junior secondary school was borne as a parent’s school with Mr. S.G Okello Olong as the headteacher. When more teachers joined the school, The parents’ Junior secondary school soon became government grant-aided. Between 1947 and 1949, Boroboro full primary school and lira junior secondary school were run jointly as a unit. But in 1950 the two institutions were separated, although meals and duties still remained a joined affair for a short time.The institution of the junior secondary three came to an end in 1958. On September 20th, 1958, it became the firs consolidated, Co-institutional Anglican junior school in Lango. In 1962, it attained a secondary status as lira junior secondary school-a single sex school for boys only. From the year 1963, The school developed in to a parents’ senior secondary school. Following a meeting which was held on 20th, May 1964, Boroboro senior secondary school was started to replace lira junior secondary school. When the former president of republic of Uganda, the late Dr. Apollo Milton Obote visited Canon Lawrance primary teachers’ College, A nearby school, in late 1964, The management of Boroboro senior secondary school requested that the school be named after him and he accepted. Boroboro senior secondary school was the named Dr. Obote College Boroboro with Mr. Edward Ejura (R.I.P) as headteacher.Because of parents’ efforts, the headmaster’s resourceful guidance and the church’s financial aid and other encouragement, the senior secondary school became government grant-aided in 1965 and the first government headmaster was Mr. E.A Forster. The first school certificate (S.4) candidates sat for their examinations in 1966.In 1966, western Uganda experienced a strong earthquake that devastated many areas. Kyebambe girls’ school in fort portal was among the schools greatly affected. The students from this school were moved to Dr. Obote College Boroboro where they were hosted up to 1972. This forced the boys’ only school to be mixed.In 1972 however the west wing of Dr. Obote College Boroboro was designated at St. Katherine girls’ school where the girls where the transferred leaving Dr. Obote College Boroboro as purely boys’ school.Advanced level was started in 1971 but closed down in 1974. In 1981, it was re-opened as a mixed section. Since then, Dr. Obote College Boroboro as remained mixed only at Advanced level.way to Quality Education
